Project Award: Purple Line Addition to Washington, DC Metro
Southland Engineering, a collaborative engineering partner offering a complete range of engineering services nationwide, was recently awarded the engineering contract for the Purple Line addition to Washington DC’s metropolitan transportation system.
Once completed, the Purple Line will provide a direct connection to the Metrorail red, green, and orange lines at Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton. Spanning more than 200,000 square feet, Southland’s scope of work consists of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation design services. The project consists of two operations and maintenance facilities serving the 16.2-mile light rail. Southland will also implement variable refrigerant systems and compressed air, lubrication, and other specialty systems.
With a goal of LEED Silver certification, the project’s design phase is currently underway. Overall project completion is anticipated by 2021.
