Solar Manufacturing Facility at Riverbend
Located in Buffalo, New York, the Solar Manufacturing Facility at Riverbend produces more than one gigawatt of annual solar capacity at full production. The facility is a result of Soraa, a high-efficiency green LED lighting manufacturer and Silevo, a silicon solar cell module manufacturer, teaming up to develop the high-tech manufacturing hub at Riverbend.
Spanning more than one million square feet, Southland Engineering provided detailing, BIM modeling, and coordination for all mechanical and process exhaust systems.
Approach & Innovations
Southland Engineering utilized BIM models to produce shop drawings for sheetmetal prefabrication and installation. To ensure the models were constructible, the design team collaborated with a local mechanical installation contractor. To continuously assist with field installation, BIM 360 was used to track issues and provide the installation crews with live models, drawings, and specifications.
The design team also provided bulk gas and process cooling water system BIM models, detailing, coordination, and prefabrication drawings, as well as quality assurance and controls for the installing contractor.
